MEDEA: a multi element detector array for gamma ray and light charged particle detection at the LNS-Catania
نویسندگان
چکیده
A 411'highly granular Multi Element DEtector Array (MEDEA) for "I-rays and light charged particles is described. Its basic configuration consists of 180 barium fluoride scintillator crystals, arranged in the shape of a ball, plus a forward angle wall of 120 phoswich detectors. The inner radius of the ball (22 cm) and the distance of the wall from the target (55 cm) allow the placement of other detectors in the inner volume. The whole detection system operates under vacuum inside a large scattering chamber. Dedicated electronics has been designed and realized. It includes a powerful hardware second level trigger and preanalysis system, which allows on-line event selection, and a modular VME-bus based data acquisition system. In-beam performances of the system are also described.

متن کاملAn investigation of using hump in the Cherenkov photon lateral distribution for Gamma-Hadron separation
Simulation of gamma and hadron showers in the energy range 100GeV- 25TeV has been carried out. For a big ideal Cherenkov light array, characteristics of lateral distribution of Cherenkov photon density have been studied. Results from this ideal detector are compared with those simulated for a real TUNKA- like array to investigate experimental potential of using existence of a hump in lateral di...
متن کاملAssessment of X-Ray Crosstalk in a Computed Tomography Scanner with Small Detector Elements Using Monte Carlo Method
Introduction: Crosstalk is a leakage of X-ray or light produced in a matrix of X-ray detectors or array of photodiodes in one element to other elements affecting on image contrast and spatial resolution. In this study, we assessed X-ray crosstalk in a computed tomography (CT) scanner with small detector elements to estimate the effect of various parameters such as X-ray tube voltage, detector e...
متن کاملبهینهسازی پاسخ دزیمتری نوترون در بازه انرژی حرارتی و سریع برای آشکارساز دیودی
During the last few years, real time gamma and neutron dosimeters have been developed and semiconductor diodes are frequently used in these dosimeters. Semiconductor diodes are used to charged particle detection. For sensitizing the detector to neutrons, a converter layer is contacted on the front surfaces of them. Incident neutrons interact with the converter and produce charged particles that...
